Job Description

Job Context
To drive company vehicles, in all weather and traffic conditions in a safe, lawful and efficient manner to at least the standard laid down by Bulk Freight and the National Road Traffic Act.

Key Performance Areas

Complete all necessary company and legal documentation and return same to control at the end of a trip. Ensure driver’s license and PRDP are valid and carried whilst driving. (PrDP to be renewed one month before expiry).

Report all vehicle defects, to either control or the workshop supervisor, by completion of a vehicle repair voucher.

Remain with the vehicle when broken down (the exception being to reach a telephone or to comply with instruction from control or the maintenance supervisor).

Never allow any unauthorized passengers.

Follow work schedules and report undue delays or deviations. Report arrival and departure at loading / delivery points and contact control at least once per day on cross border operations.

Report on management, accidents or any other incidents which could cause loss to the company. Maintain good customer relations and adhere to standard operating procedures.

Change road wheels in the event of puncture or blow-out, provided the correct equipment has been supplied.

Correctly couple / uncouple semi-trailer and pup from power unit, when authorized to do so. No unauthorized interlinks uncoupling of semi-trailer interlinks outside the depot. If authorized to do so, check instructions on uncoupling procedures.

Comply with all SABS codes applicable to the work being undertaken.

Grade 12
