Job Description

A licensed short-term insurer, operating in a highly regulated environment, is entering a strategic growth phase with expansion into personal and commercial motor, property, and liability lines. Built on strong governance, risk, and compliance foundations, the organisation is supported by actuarial oversight and specialist outsourced functions. With disciplined, quality-driven growth as its focus, the business emphasises sound capital management and strict regulatory alignment.

This Finance Manager role is central to the finance function and directly supports the organisation’s expansion strategy. You will lead the first-line finance operations, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and effective capital and solvency monitoring. The position currently operates within an outsourced administrative structure, with potential to transition in-house as the business scales.

Minimum Requirements

  • CA(SA) qualification (essential)
  • 2–3+ years post-articles experience in short-term insurance
  • Completed SAICA Articles
  • Non-life insurance experience (essential)
  • Exposure to motor, property, and liability lines (personal and commercial)
  • Strong knowledge of SAM, SCR, and ORSA
  • Experience with regulatory reporting to the Prudential Authority
  • Understanding of IFRS 17
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills and experience with accounting systems (Xero, Sage Pastel)

  • Binder / UMA / outsourced models
  • Broker due diligence and onboarding
  • Working within a growing or scaling insurer
  • Ability to thrive in a lean, hands-on environment

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts
  • Draft annual financial statements in line with regulatory standards
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting
  • Deliver financial reports to Exco and Board

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Manage and submit returns to the Prudential Authority
  • Ensure compliance with SAM, IFRS, and insurance regulations
  • Support internal and external audits

Capital & Solvency Management

  • Support ORSA processes and capital planning
  • Collaborate with actuarial functions
  • Monitor SCR and solvency coverage ratios

Operational Finance

  • Oversee premium, claims, and cashflow processes
  • Manage bank accounts and reconciliations
  • Ensure controls over binder and outsourced arrangements

Governance & Internal Controls

  • Maintain strong internal controls aligned to GOI 3
  • Support risk, compliance, and audit functions
  • Develop and maintain finance policies and procedures
