Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ has an opportunity available for a Compliance Manager to join the Finance team in Midrand. The main purpose of this role will to oversee and coordinate the Group’s compliance activities, ensuring that regulatory obligations are effectively identified, tracked, monitored and reported across all business units. The role ensures that compliance frameworks, policies and monitoring processes are consistently applied across the organisation, supporting adherence to applicable laws, governance requirements and internal standards.
Minimum Requirements…
Essential:
- Matric or equivalent Senior Certificate.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Compliance, Risk Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 – 7 years’ experience in Compliance, Risk Management, Legal, Internal Audit or Governance roles, with demonstrated exposure to regulatory environments
- Experience with compliance or GRC systems
Advantage:
- Experience in healthcare, retail or listed environments, with hands on involvement in regulatory frameworks such as POPIA, JSE Listings Requirements, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), National Health Act and related healthcare regulations or SAHPRA

Compliance Framework Oversight:
- Develop, implement and maintain the Group compliance framework, policies and procedures.
- Ensure that regulatory obligations are clearly identified, documented and mapped to business activities.
- Maintain oversight of the compliance universe and ensure alignment to applicable legislation and governance frameworks.
- Oversee the development, review and updating of group-wide compliance policies, including the Code of Conduct, ethics policies and related governance standards.
- Ensure that policies remain aligned to regulatory requirements, internal risk appetite and best practice principles.
- Provide guidance to business units on the interpretation and application of compliance policies and expected standards.
- Build and embed a strong compliance culture by acting as a trusted advisor to first line, while maintaining independent second-line oversight.
Regulatory Coordination and Change Manager:
- Oversee the monitoring of regulatory developments relating to, but not limited to, POPIA, JSE Listings Requirements, SAHPRA and King IV/V.
- Assess and coordinate the impact of regulatory changes across affected business areas.
- Ensure appropriate communication, interpretation support and implementation of regulatory updates.
- Oversee the review and update of policies and procedures in response to regulatory changes.
Compliance Monitoring and Oversight:
- Develop and manage a risk-based Compliance Monitoring Plan covering key regulatory and operational compliance areas across the Group, ensuring that monitoring activities are scheduled, executed, tracked and reported.
- Coordinate second line compliance reviews to assess adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Review monitoring outputs, identify themes and ensure appropriate escalation of key compliance risks.
- Ensure that compliance gaps, breaches and control weaknesses are formally tracked and addressed.
- Oversee the investigation and resolution of significant compliance breaches where required.
- Oversee the implementation and closure of remediation actions across business units.
Governance and Reporting:
- Prepare and present compliance reports, dashboards and updates to management and governance structures.
- Provide compliance input into Executive Risk Committee and Audit and Risk Committee submissions.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of compliance risks, breaches and regulatory matters.
- Maintain oversight of regulatory submissions and disclosure requirements where applicable.
Stakeholder Engagement and Advisory:
- Act as the central point of coordination for compliance across the Group.
- Engage with business units to ensure understanding and application of compliance requirements.
- Provide practical guidance to management on compliance obligations and regulatory expectations.
- Support the development of a compliance aware culture through training and awareness initiatives.
Regulatory and Audit Interface:
- Coordinate responses to regulatory bodies, inspections and information requests where applicable.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required compliance documentation and context.
- Ensure that audit findings relating to compliance are tracked and remediated.
