Job Description
Assist in managing daily mining activities (surface or underground), ensuring safe execution of work plans, compliance with legislation, and achievement of production targets. This role combines operational supervision, safety leadership, and cross-departmental collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day mining operations and supervise production teams.
- Monitor equipment utilization, cycle times, and production KPIs.
- Conduct daily planning meetings and toolbox talks.
- Act as a legally appointed competent person under MHSA supervision.
- Enforce compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, Codes of Practice, and site-specific standards.
- Carry out inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Promote and support the “Zero Harm” safety strategy.
- Ensure risk assessments, PTOs, and workplace examinations are completed effectively.
- Assist with incident investigations and reporting.
- Lead small operational teams and identify training needs.
- Support competency development and enforce performance management processes.
- Liaise with Engineering, Survey, Geology, and Safety departments.
- Provide accurate shift reports and production feedback.
Candidate Profile
- Grade 12 (NQF4) essential.
- Blasting Certificate or Mineral Resources Qualification (advantageous).
- Valid 2.6.1 Assistant Manager appointment or readiness for appointment.
- 3–5 years’ mining experience (surface or underground depending on site).
- Supervisory experience beneficial.
